Summary:
Gambling does not directly cause domestic violence, yet it can intersect in a variety of ways. The impact both gambling and domestic violence has upon individuals, and our society can include unemployment, (coerced) debt, and diminished health as examples. Physical violence often overshadows our perception of domestic violence; however, economic abuse and coercive control can be prevalent among those experiencing gambling-related domestic violence. Greater awareness is needed regarding the impact of gambling and domestic violence to help empower survivors to financial wellness.
