Date: October 4, 2024
Time: 12PM-1PM
CEU's: 1
Presented By:
Marc Treanor, MS, LPC, LPCMH, CSAT, ICGC-I
Summary:
While it was often common for people to combine substances and behaviors to increase their high, many people are finding it more difficult to sustain their recovery because their addictions and behaviors are becoming more ubiquitous. Gambling apps are on phones and in restaurants, and slot machines are at some gas stations. Marijuana is becoming legalized throughout the country, and it can feel as though social media and advertisements are continuously pushing everything but recovery. For some people, addiction can feel like a game of Whac-A-Mole, especially if they are struggling with co-occurring addictions. After this training, participants will be able to identify different process addictions and how they interact with other behaviors and substances to make recovery more complicated. Therapists will be able to better support clients in identifying their challenges and goals so the clients can live a life more in line with their core values.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Identify 5 questions and 5 categories that can help a person identify problematic behaviors and if they are misusing substances.
- Identify idiosyncrasies for at least three different types of process addictions.
- Identify at least three differences between healthy sexuality (sexual positivity) and toxic sexual behaviors (sex addiction).
- Describe the difference between Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and Anorexia Nervosa
- Identify six components of the addiction cycle.
- Describe how co-addictions can be fused and describe three different stages of that process.
