Summary:
As access to new forms of gambling become available within our state it is important that behavioral health professionals and our community members develop a better understanding of them and the potential risks. This training will assist in developing a better understanding and the potential impact they can have not just on the individual struggling with problematic gambling, but also their family and everyone associated with them. In our Part 1 training we heard from a young adult male who struggled with sports gambling and how disordered gambling severely negatively impacted his entire family. In this Part 2 training we are going to hear from a female perspective and the personal story from a mom and wife and how her gambling severely negatively impacted her entire family. This training is relevant for all community members and professionals in the behavioral health field.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training attendees should:
- Have a better understanding of the increased access and newer forms of gambling available within our state.
- Have a better understanding of why we are seeing an increase in female callers reaching out for help attracted to some of the newer forms of gambling and why it may be progressing at such a rapid pace.
- Have a better understanding of how problematic gambling can severely impact the entire family from the perspective of a mom and wife.
- Be better able to recognize the signs and have a conversation with someone who may be at risk or already struggling with a gambling disorder.
- Know some of the resources available and what may be helpful to offer someone you may know struggling with problematic gambling.
