Summary:
Domestic violence, coercive control, and human trafficking can share overlapping dynamics involving power, dependency, isolation, financial vulnerability, and exploitation. This webinar explores how vulnerability may develop and increase over time, including how financial and gambling-related harms may contribute to circumstances that increase dependency and reduce perceived options. Participants will examine potential pathways from abusive and controlling dynamics to exploitation while recognizing that vulnerability does not inevitably lead to human trafficking. Using a trauma-informed and survivor-centered framework, the webinar will emphasize earlier recognition, appropriate response and referral, prevention, and opportunities to support safety, autonomy, and recovery.
