Carin Miller is a Peer Recovery Support Specialist with the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling (the Center). As a Peer for the Center, Carin assists individuals within Maryland struggling with problem gambling and gambling addiction to navigate recovery treatment resources and helps remove any barriers to recovery. Carin has volunteered for over a decade to support countless individuals and their families suffering with drug and alcohol addiction and continues to “pay it forward” through her advocacy efforts. Carin’s drug awareness advocacy became a necessity to save her own family, of which two members suffer with severe Substance Use Disorders. In 2016, Carin co-founded a statewide non-profit, Maryland Heroin Awareness Advocates that is comprised of family members who advocate for prevention, education and quality treatment for children and adults with addictions, including individuals with co-occuring substance use and mental illness. As its Director, she continues to support those seeking treatment services and resources and utilizes her talents in fundraising efforts to expand the outreach for help, hope and a path to recovery. In addition, Carin founded and continues to facilitate one of the longest running weekly peer support groups in Maryland, Save Our Children Peer Support Group which offers a safe place to share without shame and stigma. Carin infuses her lifelong passion and commitment to help others in all aspects of her life.
