Summary:​
This Hispanic Heritage Month, hear from two amazing speakers! Anita Costales, a dedicated prevention professional who works with Hispanic youth in schools and communities throughout Delaware will explain why the Hispanic population faces elevated risk factors and exposure rates for problem gambling. She will explain how she makes her work culturally relevant to appeal to the Hispanic population through targeted leadership programs, robust family engagement, and systematic school-based interventions. Anita will explain her challenges and successes in working with the Hispanic population, especially as it relates to digital gaming and gambling Jose’ Camacho-Vargas, a talented professional at Maryland Lottery and Gaming, will provide an overview of Hispanic Heritage Month and an explanation of terms such as Hispanic/Latino/Latinx. Based on his experience, he will speak about how gambling impacts these communities. Jose’ will also discuss tools available to prevent problem gambling offered by the Maryland Lottery including the Voluntary Exclusion Program (VEP) and review the 2024 Prevalence Study data related to the population.   4. Discuss the tools available to prevent problem gambling offered through the Maryland Lottery including the Voluntary Exclusion Program and the Language Line.
  5. Understand updated data from the 2024 Prevalence Study on the Hispanic population in Maryland.
